From The Heart

He who wins souls is wise Proverbs 11:30b

This last week as I was reading through Proverbs, as is my usual daily routine. Verses from chapter 24 have stayed with me. They pertain to the verse above, and also to Daniel 12:3, “those who are wise will shine as bright as they sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever” The Living Translation.

Hmmm. Food for thought.

Below is the verses that have been challenging me, so I thought I’d share them with you.

Proverbs 24:10-12 “If you faint when under pressure, you have need of courage. Go and rescue the perishing! Be their savior! Why would you stand back and watch them stagger to their death? And why would you say, ‘but it’s none of my business’? The one who knows you completely and judges your every motive is also the keeper of souls – and not just yours! He sees through your excuses and holds you responsible for failing to help those whose lives are threatened.”

Wow! I find this so challenging. I could say “I’m not really an evangelist”. “I’m reserved and don’t know how to reach out to people”. “I don’t know what to say and don’t want to be offensive”.

However, these verses don’t really allow for any of the above excuses or reasons. V 10 says that if we faint under pressure, we have need of courage. Courage is described as; not the absence of fear but going ahead and doing it anyway.

Our Lord and Friend calls us to ‘be strong and of good courage” Joshua 1:6. Actually in Joshua 1:9 we are commanded. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Our hearts can take courage because the Mighty Creator of the whole universe says He is with us wherever we go!

Let’s en-courage each other this coming week as we respond to His call to be courageous and win souls.

Shalom

Kath
