Chaplain’s Chat

Gems along the way…..

As we journey through life, we meet people who take the time to encourage us along the way; people who speak words of wisdom, of advice, of encouragement and of challenge. I call these people our ‘champions’. Their words ring true and make good sense to us. Their words are gems along the way, helping us to set positive direction and move us forward on our journey.

Thank God for our champions!

Recently I attended a leadership meeting with some fellow Chaplains. We were taking time out to both review our efforts over the past year and plan for the coming year. During our time together, one of our guest speakers, one of those ‘champions’, spoke to us about reviewing his own leadership style and practice (along with his wife), by also taking time out, and stepping back from the everyday busyness for a time, to ask himself three questions.

  1. What do I need to stop doing?
  2. What do I need to start doing? and
  3. What do I need to continue doing?

Good advice! Gems along the way. All good questions, and particularly helpful as we each look back over the previous season and continue to plan for the next.

As we plan and act, may we know God’s wisdom. He promises to give us wisdom when we ask. The book of James records these words, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

Finally, may I encourage you to be a ‘champion’, wherever you are serving.

God’s blessings
