From The Heart

Speak the Name that has power

Have you ever woken with a song, or part of a song playing in your mind and spirit? This is what I was aware of today as I woke. It’s a part of a song we have been singing in church; of course referring to the powerful Name of our Lord and Friend, Jesus Christ. The chorus says ‘speak the Name that has power, speak the Name above all other, my Saviour, Redeemer, my Hope and my Healer, Jesus, Jesus, I speak the Name”.

Again we are reminded of the importance of speaking His Name and His Word. When we are confronted with a challenge, it’s not enough just to think in our head on the scriptures relating to our problem, but we must speak them out. Jesus said, “Whoever says to this mountain ‘be removed and be cast into the sea’, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he shall have whatever he says”. Mark 11 verse 23.

Sometimes as we lay our head down to sleep at night, our thoughts may turn to all the things we haven’t accomplished during the day, and we struggle to get to sleep. This happened to me recently, and as I was laying there I remembered Psalm 23 verse 6 “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” I once heard it said “God’s goodness is running after you, chasing you down”. As I meditated on this, I whispered the words our loud, and in a short time, I was sleeping soundly. It may not always be so quick but many times as I declared God’s word out loud, negative bombardments in my soul have been defeated.

Our Lord and Friend spoke scripture to defeat the enemy. He has given us His powerful Name to use in prayer. Let’s speak the Name of Jesus over our families, cities and nations.

God bless you.
