Luke 15 Verse 10: “I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”

Luke is sometimes described as the Gospel of Joy. We start with, and it is not surprising that in the Gospel the birth of Jesus is surrounded with songs:

Mary’s song, Luke 1 verses 46 to 55.

Zechariah’s song, Luke 1 verses 68 to 79.

The Angel’s song. Luke 2 verse 14.

Simeon’s song Luke 2 verses 29 to 32.

Just as the Gospel opens with joy, so it closes in the same way. After Christ Jesus returns to His Father in Heaven, the disciples return to Jerusalem ‘with great joy’ Luke 24 verse 52. They were looking forward to the promise of The Gift of The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was the secret of Jesus’ own joy, Luke 10 verse 21.

The joy we learn about in Luke is not some kind of short time pleasure. In Luke 10 verses 17 to 20: When the 72 disciples return from their mission. Jesus tells them not to rejoice in what they have done on their mission, but more rejoice that they have an eternal destination. “Rejoice that your names are written in heaven”.

Luke Chapter 15; is a great focal point for us, it is the chapter of the lost.

Parable of the Lost Sheep: Luke 15 verses 1 to 7;

Parable of the Lost Son: Luke 15 verses 11 to 32:

These parables, give us an insight into the Joy of The Lord has forgiving those who recognize their own sinfulness, and our need for Him, in our lives.

The joy of witnessing, Luke 14 verse 23; “Go out into the highways and lanes and make them, come in, so that my house may be full.

The Joy of knowing, God’s love, that “any Whosoever” may come.

We should all have a new look at the Book of Luke, from the aspect of Joy, but like all scripture, there is blessing to be found.
