THE LORD OF LAWS
In the Book of Mark, chapter six and seven, we hear of Jesus having tirelessly moved from villages to market places healing the people. Some were healed by touching the hem of his cloak. Despite this demonstration of his love and power, the Pharisee’s and Teachers of Law from Jerusalem, challenged him on the disciples eating food with hands that were unclean. They themselves did not eat unless performing a ceremonial tradition of washing hands first. They also washed cups, pitchers and kettles before eating. What does Jesus reply? “You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” He even called them hypocrites and told them they ‘nullify the word of God ‘ by your handed down traditions.
Do you still do this today as traditions handed down in the family tribe? Jesus called the crowd to him saying, ‘Listen to me and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him unclean by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him unclean.’ Later the disciples queried Jesus about this parable. He again stressed that nothing unclean can make a man so by going in to him. Verse 19 of Chapter 7, ‘For it doesn’t go into his heart but into his stomach and then out of his body. Therefore, what comes out of a man is what makes him unclean. For, from within, out of men’s hearts come evil (he lists the sins).
All these evils come from inside and makes a soul un-clean . This passage is confronting and convicting to the hearts of today’s world and today’s people to take heed of. The cleansing of hands before eating is a necessary task but it is the cleansing of the heart that our Lord of Laws desires. Do not doubt his truth and heed his words.
