TODAY’S CHILDREN OF ISRAEL
In Isaiah 30, it is written of Egyptians as utterly useless in an unprofitable nation (verse 3-6) and that ‘these are rebellious people, deceitful children: children, unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.’(Verse 6) Of the seers, they told, ‘’See no more visions!’ To the prophets, ‘Give no more visions of what is right! Leave this way, get off this path and stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel. The response from The Holy One was, ‘Because you have rejected this message, relied on oppression and you depend on deceit, this sin will become for you like a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly in an instant. It will be broken like pieces of pottery and shattered mercilessly.
Does this bring to mind the society of today? There are the constant confrontations as to doing what is ‘right’ in life. There is still rejection by those choosing not to follow the right moral paths; of young ones who deceive and ignore instructions from the Lord and from parents. Of actions that create walls that collapse from consequences of wrongdoing? Lifestyles shattered from drug and alcohol dependence and emotions torn as to what today’s children resort to support it. Is today much different from Israel’s time with their ignorant lack of listening and disregard in hearing the way of God?
Separation of faith, separation of trust, a lack of love and caring, dishonoring each other, self-gratification, emotional distancing and unbelief spiritually are symptoms that were evident of the people of Israel. The deceitful children of Israel today are the modern day kin of rebellious people who continue their unwillingness to listen to the Lord.
Yet, God’s word promises in chapter 32,
‘Still the Spirit is poured upon us from on high and the desert becomes a fertile field. The fruit of righteousness will be peace. The effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.’ Our amazing God never gives up on us. He is the changer of lives.
WILL YOU ALLOW HIM TO CHANGE YOU AND YOURS?
