The Whys ‘Why Me’

Why me, is one of the greatest self interest statements. People lose their jobs, come down with an illness, become a victim of a crime, or be effected by a natural disaster. They are all terrible circumstances, and perhaps we can question God.

Why me! not someone else, this is more than self-interest, it is verging on self-righteousness, and the statement I don’t deserve this. when we ask God ‘why’ or ‘why me, often we do not find the answer we are wanting.

‘Why’ is okay to ask of God, because after all He created us with an inquiring mind, to know more about Him.

Psalm 73 is often called ‘God’s Way Vindicated’. It is a Psalm that affirms that we can bring our ‘whys’ to God, but notes that our complaints tend to be mixed up with sin.

The Palm affirms that when we bring our ‘whys’ to God, we may need to see what we are protesting against as part of a larger picture.
The Psalm while it affirms that we may bring our ‘whys’ to God, it shows us that we may then find that our ‘whys’ cease to be so important.

The Psalm begins from what other people have and what we wish we had, but it finishes with satisfaction in God.

Christ died for us as an individual, but as an individual, we need to find that satisfaction in God,

The biggest ‘why’ we can ask is after reading John 3 verse 16; “For God so loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone {that includes you and me} who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life”.

That is a good ‘why me’ to ask, why God did you love me that much. And we might find one of the answers might be Jeremiah 29 verse 11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you’— this is the Lord’s declaration—‘plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope’.”

Our Lord and Our Friend knows all about, all the ‘whys’ and ‘why mes’, we may ask, nothing phases Him, because He has plans in place for each of us.

As we reflect on Psalm 73; let us find more of the satisfaction we can have, from knowing and following, such a loving Lord and Friend.

God Bless.
