Realising The Power That’s In Us

Release

You ever have that moment when things just click? It’s almost like getting the right number in a sudoku that unlocks the whole puzzle, or a fiendish word in a crossword that gives you the moment to solve the whole thing.

Well that happened to me this morning.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been praying “God, I feel like we’re just missing it. You’re gospel isn’t a complicated gospel. But I really feel we are missing the point. Make things clear to me.”

And God, being a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, spoke to me this morning and said “Mark:16” So there I turned while eating my breakfast, reading words I’d read before several times, none of them really standing out, until I get right to the end, to my favourite words, the ones in red.

These were the last words spoken by Jesus as recorded by Mark, before he ascended into heaven, so they are sure to carry some weight. Sure beats some of the great last words ever spoken in Cinema History like “I’ll be back”, “The truth is… I am Iron Man.”

These words hit me this morning: MARK 16:15-18

Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Obviously when Jesus left us, He promised us the one who is greater, promised us that greater than these shall we do (Talking about His miracles). So how is this possible?

By the Holy Spirit of course. He was the power that Jesus had on this earth as a man, and he gave it to us, so that we could continue on with His work. Which is great. Because the Holy Spirit, is very well experienced in haling the sick, raising the dead, and cleansing the lepers. He is our insurance plan, our body guard assigned to us in a contract that was signed in blood! That is incredible. I don’t think we realise the power that we actually have inside of us. I really don’t, otherwise, the words in bold above would be wider seen by the body of believers on this earth.

This isn’t supposed to be condemning, it’s supposed to be encouraging.

You see as a believer, Jesus has said that if you BELIEVE in him, not in miracles, not in blessings, not in angels, not in anything else, BUT HIM, then these things will follow you. You won’t be able to help them from happening, because it isn’t you who is doing it. You have entered into a covenant partnership where it is ALL of Him using ALL of You.

Not only has the Holy Spirit been sent to lead us and counsel us, but to protect us. How else could we get bitten by snakes and not be hurt (I’d advise you to not pick up snakes. Commonsense should prevail) or drink poison (once again advise against doing so on purpose. This part was more to show that if people are out to get us and persecute us, we can be protected. After all Paul did get bitten by a snake, and nothing happened to him. He most certainly did not go out of his way to pick one up!)?

The great thing about this list is, it isn’t a list of maybes or exceptions. It isn’t a list that says one shall have immunity from snakes, while another shall heal the sick, No. It’s an inclusive list. Jesus was saying that if WE BELIEVE in Him (In his existance, in His miracles, in His life) then we will Speak in tongues, cast out devils, heal the sick, survive snake bites and poison!

That’s exciting, and it surpasses any denominational doctrine. It doesn’t matter if you believe that you can heal the sick or speak in tongues. God said you could if you believed in Him. I think we need to believe HIS word more than what any man can say!

I don’t think we need to seek these things out, nor should they be our focus. Jesus needs to be that. And if we keep seeking Him, focusing on him, and walking towards him, then these miracles will follow us, and point the way to Jesus. After all isn’t that what a sign is?

He created them as a sign so they world would know we are His believers! That is Him telling us that this is normal! We can truly get to a place where these signs follow us, and continue to point the way to Jesus!

I think it would be great if the world didn’t know me for my silly actions or words from time to time, but know me as a follower of Christ, because where I go Freedom, love, and peace follow me. The sick get healed, the lepers get cleansed, the dead gt raised. And everyone feels the Amazing love that Jesus has for them all.

And they great thing is, the only qualifying factor is: Believe in Him.

So I encourage you to do that, and He will take care of the rest. Thanks to the Holy Spirit living inside of us. We don’t have to do anything but focus on Jesus, and walk towards Him. Couldn’t get much easier than that!

Be Blessed
