Faith And The Environment

A lot of people would say the bible is not big on Environmental issues. So is the Bible concerned with the earth’s ecology? Or does it teach the earth’s resources exist purely for people pleasure, to be used as they will with little thought for long-term consequences?

The earth is the Lord’s, and all it fullness and it is stated in Psalms:

Psalms 24 verse 1 (Message Bible) “God claims Earth and everything in it, God claims World and all who live on it.”

Psalm 104 verse 24 (Message bible) “What a wildly wonderful world God! You made it all, with wisdom at your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creation.

Not only has God created the world, He sustains it with loving attention.

Scripture shows clearly that the Lord watches over every aspect of His creation, including it’s conservation.

Read Psalm 104 verses 10 to 23 for greater explanation.

Example of this includes Genesis 2 verse 15 “God took the man and set him down in the Garden of Eden to work the ground and keep it in order.

In Exodus 23 verses 10 and 11 Sow your land for six years and gather its produce.” “But during the seventh year you are to let it rest and leave it uncultivated, so that the poor among your people may eat from it, and the wild animals may consume what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.

Also read Leviticus 25 verse 2 to 7Deuteronomy 20 verse 19 to 20 and Deuteronomy 22 verse 6 to 7.

God’s law also prohibits the unnecessary destruction of fruit and nut trees. Genesis 1 verse 31.

When God created the worlds resources, He declared them to be good. He assigned people to care for them and develop them, and use them for good. Genesis 1 verse 26 to 31.

The management role is part of our calling. God has made us more than consumers who gratify their own desires.

God (Our Lord and Our Friend) wants us to serve Him as we manage His creation. Our work is a gift from God to develop and deliver the benefits of these resources to other people.

God provided everything for Our Needs, not Our Greed.

God bless.
