Blessed state of righteousness
This is the description in my NKJV Bible of Psalm 112. In Galatians, Paul reminds us that righteousness happens when life, resurrection life, is imparted. Galatians 3:21 “Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given that was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law”.
Paul train of thought here equates being made righteous with the impartation of new life. The Law could not impart life or make someone righteous. But the resurrection power of Christ can do both. It’s the literal presence of Christ’s resurrection life with us that imparts righteousness to us. We are actually saved by the impartation (giving) of His resurrection life. Romans 5:10, 1 Peter 3:21. This is how we actually become “the righteousness of God”. 2 Corinthians 5:21.
The only way we can practice righteousness is if we’re born of God. 1 John 2:29 “if you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.” Our becoming righteous involved a death to our old self and the spiritual birth of a new, righteous self. This new righteous self is a “partaker of the Divine nature.” 2 Peter 1:4. A ‘partaker’ is someone who shares in what has been imparted to them. Our righteousness is very real.
Let’s receive the abundance of Grace from our Lord and Friend who gives us the gift of righteousness. Romans 5:17 “For if by one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one Jesus Christ.”
Shalom.
