From The Heart

A new season

Recently I have been pondering the scripture “the Lord loves a cheerful giver”. I had found myself feeling weary and lacking my usual joy in life. We had decided to take a month off our usual duties so wanted to seek the Lord regarding His purpose for me in this season of my life.

Quotes I read: ‘ an awakened person is someone who dances to the tune of music that springs up from within.” “She who trims herself to suit everybody will soon whittle herself away.” Sometimes I can allow the deep joy and peace I have with the Lord to take a battering under the weight of my sense of responsibility and perceived expectations.

The Message translation of Matthew 11:28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

I love that verse “Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”

My sister sent me a YouTube clip about ‘life after 60’. It was saying that as we age our ministry/purpose doesn’t diminish but changes direction. It becomes more about legacy. Passing on what we have learned to the next generation. The believer who has walked with our Lord and Friend for many years carries something the next generation desperately needs, wisdom, perspective, stability and conviction.

The Great Commission remains, though it often finds its clearest expression in the quiet, faithful discipleship of a few. Throughout Scripture we find this principle clearly. In their latter years, Moses spent his final years preparing Joshua; Elijah poured in Elisha; Paul wrote letters to Timothy urging him to remain steadfast.

I don’t have the full answer, but as we walk with our Lord and Friend daily, I know He is faithful to us. Philippians 1:6 promises “I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Shalom
