Our of your belly shall flow rivers
This week this song that we sang in Sunday School many years ago has been playing in my memory. You may be familiar with the words.
“There’s a river of life flowing out from me; makes the lame to walk and the blind to see; opens prison doors, sets the captives free; there’s a river of life flowing out from me. Spring up, oh well, within my soul; spring up, oh well, and make me whole; spring up oh well and give to me, that life abundantly.”
As we approach Pentecost Sunday this weekend, I am conscious of being so grateful for the wonderful Holy Spirit, our Lord and Friend. He is the One who enables those rivers to flow out in abundance. He is the One Who enables the springs of living water to well up within us and bring us to wholeness. What a wonderful Saviour.
Jesus said in John 7:38 “Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water.” Holy Spirit is in this passage, likened to living waters flowing out of us who believe and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. These represent the continuous outpouring of His grace and power, nourishment and refreshment.
It is through the Holy Spirit’s presence and power in our lives as believers, that we receive constant spiritual nourishment and are empowered to share our faith with others and to live the overcoming life.
May you be refreshed in His Presence, filled with His power and strengthened with His joy this week. Be still and know that He is God.
Shalom
Kath
