Holy Spirit – Very Present Help in time of need
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” New Living Translation says “always ready to help in times of trouble”.
This scripture was given to me in a prophetic word early in my walk with the Lord and has been a comfort and encouragement to me many times as I have encountered difficulties along the way. Sometimes in needing wisdom to know how to manage things happening with my teenage daughters at school and other times in how to best deal with a problem as a sole parent.
One particular incident comes to mind. I had been at a children’s camp with my two young daughters and an elderly lady from church several hours drive away from home. and we were returning after a great weekend when out of the blue, my back tyre blew out and we were airborne, landing safely in a pile of native grasses beside the road. No one was seriously injured, however the car was deemed a write off. I was fully insured but when the insurance company came to check on things, it was found that there was a fault with the tyre and they did not want to cover the cost of a new car.
My Pastor told me to read Psalm 37 and that became a point of faith and hope for me. Especially where it says ‘dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness’. The end of the story was that the insurance company finally agreed to pay – in what they said was an ‘ex gratis’ payment. Which to my understanding was when they gave ‘grace’ to a claimant and paid out. I was amazed and very grateful. The Lord had truly shown Himself to be a very present help in my time of trouble.
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Psalm 18:6 and verse 19 “In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help – “He brought me out into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me”.
So we see from my story that it’s not just in times of trouble and any need – that the Holy Spirit is very present to help. He is our Helper. Remember to call upon Him.
God’s rich blessings
