Sorry this is not a merry little lamb story. the story comes from 2 Samuel 12;
It is more a story of wanting what we can’t have. Nobody is above the law, and most certainly no body is above God’s Law. Luke 10 verse 27:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself”.
It is an all embracing law, to Glorify Our Lord and Our Friend in everything we do and put others above ourselves. King David had a problem, he needed to obey God’s law, just like everybody else.
David had married Bathsheba under dubious circumstances, after admiring her on a roof, David took her for himself, and set up a situation where her husband would be killed, so he could have Bathsheba for himself.
God sent the Prophet Nathan to see David. Nathan was there to point out to David, God was not very happy with Him. Nathan tells David a story about a ‘Little Lamb’.
‘There were two men living in the same town, one very rich and the other very poor. The rich man had a large flock of sheep but the poor man had only one little lamb that was a pet. The lamb had been with the poor man from it birth, and the poor man had raise it. The lamb followed the man everywhere. The lamb used to sit on the poor man lap, they would eat together. The little lamb was treated just as a little child”.
“One day, the rich man had guests. Instead of sending his servants to kill one of his many sheep, he send them to take and kill the poor man’s lamb, as a meal for the dinner guests’.
King David was horrified by the story, and tells Nathan the rich man deserves to die himself. Quietly Nathan pointed out to David, ‘You are that man’. ‘From your humble starts as a shepherd boy, God made you king’. He has given you everything you could need and yet you wanted more’.
King David acknowledge the error of his ways and repents, but there were consequences, for his actions, read about them in 2 Samuel 12:
By repentance of all the things we all done that have displeased God, we accept God’s Grace, Christ died to pay a debt we could not pay, for our wrong-doings.
2 Corinthians 12 verse 9: ‘ My Grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness”.
We have all sufficiency in Christ Jesus, this is more than enough for all us to be content in, rather than looking at what other people have, and don’t have.
Be blessed by our Sufficiency in Christ,
God Bless.
