When we look over the Sermon on the Mount. Mathew Chapter 5:
We find two alternatives, the first is self-reliance and the second is reliance on God, a good life lived for the wrong reasons and a good life that arises from God’s Grace.
The Sermon {A speech on a moral subject} begins Mathew 5 verse 3:
V3: “Blessed are the poor in Spirit, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs”.
V4: “Blessed are those that mourn, because they will be comforted”,
V5: Blessed are the gentle, because they will inherit the earth”.
V6: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. because they will be filled.”
V7: “Blessed are the merciful, because they will be shown mercy.”
V8: “Blessed are the pure in heart, because they will see God.”
V9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God.”
V10: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, because the Kingdom of heaven is theirs.”
V11: “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me.”
The First alternative can not get us to Heaven, Because of what is said in Mathew 5 verse 20:
“For I {Jesus} tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
The second alternatives leads to an eternal destiny, because righteousness comes from God to those who hunger for it, to those who are poor in spirit, to the broken, to those who know themselves to be recipients of God’s Grace. Grace which is God’s favor at Christ expense, He died and rose again for us.
Lets concluded with Mathew 6 verse 31 to 34::
V31; “So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or What will we wear?'”
V32 “For the Idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your Heavenly Father know you need them.”
V33: But seek first the kingdom Of god, and His righteousness and all these things will be provide to you.”
Finally Luke 12 verse 24:
“Consider the ravens; They don’t sow and reap: they don’t have a storeroom or a barn; yet God feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more then the BIRDS.”
God Bless.
