From The Heart

Do Good and don’t grow weary

Galatians 6:9 in The Message Bible says “So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time, we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.”

At the moment where we live, we are facing a cyclone which is heading our way and predicted to bring damaging winds and flooding. The expectation is that many homes will be affected. We can either get fearful, or we can set our eyes on our Lord and Friend Who will bring us through every storm.

It’s in times like these that we can be aware of others, and reach out with a helping hand or even an encouraging word; letting people know they are not alone.

Acts of giving aren’t like pebbles dropped in a pool that make a few temporary ripples then sink to the bottom, inert. They are seeds planted in the soil of life, and they will come up one day. Decisions are seeds. Attitudes are seeds. Acts are seeds. Thoughts are seeds. They all bring a harvest. Even a genuine smile is a seed.

An example is the humble potato. We don’t plant potatoes today and expect them on the dinner table tomorrow night. Long stretches of darkness and invisibility and silence separate planting and reaping. During the stretches of waiting, we cultivate and weed and nurture and plant still more seeds.

The promise of Scripture is that “we will reap in due season if we do not lose heart.” Thank You Lord.

May your ‘heart take courage’ as you continue to sow in the Kingdom that ‘joy may come in the morning as we see our harvest.”

Shalom.

Kath
