His Banner Over Me Is Love

Even though I have many tales of recent encounters with the living God I want to share one encounter that happened when I was a very baby Christian. It is one of my jewels that I treasure and hold very close in my heart, to me it is priceless.

I was invited to a weekend conference to listen to a guest speaker from New Zealand. It was my first conference so I had no idea what would happen or what to expect. The first evening of the meeting the speaker came over and chatted with me. Later as he preached, he made reference to part of our conversation, and as he ended his message, he asked for the ten people he knew he had directed part of the word to, to come forward, he wanted to pray for them. Out to the front I went along with the others. When he prayed, he said to me, “You don’t know just how special you are, and by the end of this weekend you will”. I was over the moon, delighted. But what did it mean!

On the last evening of the conference the preacher explained that he wanted to pray for everyone who wanted a touch from God, but because of the numbers present in the meeting it wasn’t possible. He stated he would move very quickly down the prayer line to anoint each person’s hands with oil and for them to return to their seat to make room for others.

Sitting on my seat I felt my heart begin to race but I didn’t understand why. People around me started going forward for prayer and soon I was sitting by myself. The pounding got stronger, I wasn’t sure why or what was happening as I was a very new Christian. Eventually I decided to go forward for pray and as I began walking to the prayer line the pounding stopped. I put my hands out to receive the anointing oil as the preacher past by and made a cross on my hand with the oil.

Before my eyes I had a vision so alive, it was as if I was actually physically present at the scene of Jesus’s death. Jesus hung on the cross, arms outstretched and with his head bent low toward his chest. It was then I heard Jesus speak in an audible voice saying, “It is finished” and with that he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Lightning from heaven flashed and hit my hands where the anointing oil had been placed. As I was experiencing this encounter with God all I could say was, “No one will ever believe me, no one!”

When I arrived home that night, I took out my bible and read about Jesus’s death. There before me in print was the description of what I had experienced and heard with my own ears, “It is finished”. John 19 verse 30. How special is that I thought. Amazing!

In John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. I believe! As the years pass my gratitude toward Jesus and the power of Calvary increases. I stand in awe of His amazing Love,

Love and blessings
